Another milestone in the journey of Wool Community Library

The Friends of Wool Community Library (FOWL) have just received welcome news from the Charity Commission that their bid to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) has been successful. This uprating of our charitable status is another important milestone in the development of our voluntary organisation which took over the management and running of Wool Library from Dorset County Council in January 2013.

Sue Kerr, Chair of FOWL has issued the following statement on behalf of the Trustees : “This has been a long and complicated process but now we gain benefits available to companies but are only responsible to the Charity Commission. Up to now we have had to work within a limited annual turnover but in the future we will be able legally to bid for much larger charitable donations as we look to continue to develop the library in consultation with Wool Parish Council. We have a number of ideas that we have had to put on the back-burner. We will celebrate five years of successful Community Management next January and we look forward to discussing with the community what they see as priorities for next five years”

For the immediate future FOWL will be concentrating on running the Children’s Annual Summer Reading Challenge which has always been a high strategic priority for the Trustees, attracting very high participation and completion rates. More details are available at the Library
