About US

Who We Are

Wool Community Library is managed by the Friends of Wool Library, with support from Dorset County Council and Wool Parish Council.

It is operated and funded entirely by volunteers and businesses who live and/or work in Wool and the surrounding villages.

The Community Library offers a service focused on the needs of the village and local area but linked into the County Library Service which, as of June 2016, has  become part of the Libraries West Consortium

We took over the running of the Library on 15 January 2013. The Library would otherwise have had to close as part of Dorset County Council’s funding cuts.

What We Do

Come and visit us. We work in exactly the same way as any other Dorset County Library.

You can use your existing library card if you have one; or you can join at the Library – membership is free.

We have everything you would expect to find in a local library: information, recreation, education and culture. You can borrow books, including large print and children’s books. Talking books, CDs and DVDs are available from Libraries West through the reservation service.  Loan terms are exactly the same as other Libraries West Libraries. The Library  uses the same computer system as Libraries West.
Items can be borrowed and returned across the Libraries West network including the Community Library.

You can view your borrowed items online and renew them at any Libraries West library, online or by phone. Items can be returned out of hours via the Community Library’s letterbox.

There are public access computers and printers and free Wi-Fi is available.

New members joining at the Community Library will be issued with a Library Card and pin number to use with it. This entitles you to use the Community Library and all Dorset and all other Libraries West Libraries. You can join the library at any age. Adults need to fill in a registration form and provide proof of name, address and signature such as driving licence, allowance book or bank statement. If you are under 16 your parent or guardian will need to sign your registration form and provide proof of their identity.

Visiting the library is free and open to everyone. If you are visiting the area and do not hold a card from a Libraries West Council Library, you are welcome to borrow books on a temporary membership card.
We have made this a welcoming space for the whole community.
This is YOUR Community Library – come and help us make it a facility fit for the whole community!
